Isidoro Cruz
"Aztec Caballero Aguila "
Isidoro Cruz is a living legend of Oaxaca. He started woodcarving at a very young age, creating masks
for the carnivals. His art has evolved in such a way that his masks in particular are in museums and private collections around the world.
Isidoro carves pieces of a profound mystical symbolism such as death and religion. This truly impressive mask is a
forceful carving of the ancient Aztec warriors called Caballeros Aguila, or eagle knights.
This totem-like sculpture is carved from a single piece of wood.
